We Were Liars by E. Lockhart is a shocking novel of plot twists and heartbreak. It tells the story of a young woman named Cadence, and the summers spent on her wealthy family’s private island. Until one summer when something goes terribly wrong. Two summers later, she begins to piece together what happened, resulting in horrendous grief. This book is suitable for teen audiences and older, however, due to the content, it would likely not be suitable for younger audiences. This book contains mentions and depictions of arson, death, grief, physical injury, manipulation, and abuse. If readers enjoyed other books by E. Lockhart, such as Again Again, or Fly on the Wall they likely will enjoy this novel as well.
