POYNETTE AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING

Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 5:00 pm

Poynette Area Public Library

 

Call to Order and Roll Call - The meeting was called to order at 5:01 PM by President Jason Koopmans.

Board Members Linda Ross, Joni DeYoung, Darcy Miller, and Brittney Jackson attended the meeting.

Library Director Jodi Bailey was also present. Jerry Pritzl and Meghan Visger were unable to attend.

Public Comments - None

 

Adoption of Agenda - A motion to adopt the agenda was made by Ross seconded by Koopmans; Motion carried.

 

Approval of Minutes from July 9, 2024 - A motion to adopt the July meeting minutes as presented was made by Ross, seconded by DeYoung; Motion carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report Presented by Treasurer Linda RossThe library checking account at Bank First has a balance of $4,239.92 as of July 31, 2024. The SCLS Foundation account has a balance of $2,053.30 as of July 31, 2024.

 

Current Budget Review - Director Bailey presented the budget.

 

Director’s Report - Congratulations to Katy Hanousek, who was selected by the South Central Library System Board of Directors as a “Community Superhero.” Katy will receive this distinguished award at the SCLS Cornerstone event in October. Our Summer Reading Program has 335 total participants. The juggling performer on July 22 surpassed our expectations with 89 attendees! Library staff has enjoyed hosting 2 awesome teachers & 31 students for the School District's Individual Reading program. It's been wonderful to welcome so many new & emerging readers to our library community this summer. Our newest employee, Shannon Erb, received her Wisc. Library Director Certification on July 30. The staff attended several webinars, classes, and monthly meetings for planning purposes, continuing education, and safety training. Community involvement in June included utilizing the Bookmobile to deliver books supporting the Pioneer Place outreach program, in-home daycare deliveries, and home-bound delivery.

 

Village of Poynette Meeting Update - DeYoung shared that the Park & Rec Summer Camp is going well. The Pauquette Park playground equipment is still being worked on. The Village Board is focusing on the 2025 budget and capital improvement projects. DeYoung will update the Library Board once the Village receives a decision regarding the DOA grant. 

 

Friends of the Library Update - Director Bailey & Trustee Miller attended the meeting on Aug. 6. The Friends voted to purchase 3D holiday glasses and $400 in children’s books to be given away at holiday events. The Friends Annual Meeting is being held Sept. 28 at 10:00 AM. There will be a brief business meeting with an election of officers and then an author presentation. Friends Board member Ardyce P. will be the Friends liaison on the Library Space Planning Committee (LSPC). The next LSPC meeting will be held on August 22 at 5:00 PM

 

Business:

 

  1. Approval of Vouchers for Library - Miller made a motion to accept the vouchers as presented, seconded by Jackson; Motion carried.

  2. Budget Committee update (meeting held Thurs., August 8 at 5:00 PM) – Began 2025 budget discussion. Director Bailey is waiting for numbers from Columbia County. The next Committee meeting is scheduled for Sept. 19 at 5:00 PM.
  3. Trustee Training Week is August 19th through the 23rd. Trustee Visger is interested in presenting to the Board later this year.
  4. Discuss Agenda Items for the Next Meeting on October 8, 2024 - Business Agenda items 1, 2, 3 and any items that may arise.
