The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid follows Monique Grant, a struggling journalist, as she writes the biography of a previously reclusive gilded-age star Evelyn Hugo. Monique is struggling when she is presented with the opportunity to help Evelyn Hugo pen a novel about her life. As Evelyn helps her write this book, she learns more and more about her life and Evelyn’s famous seven husbands. Along the way previously unknown secrets and truths are revealed, including secrets about Monique’s own life. This book has several mature themes. It is targeted at mature readers, as it contains references to or depictions of divorce, death, cancer, biphobia, alcohol, abuse, cheating, suicide, and other themes not appropriate for immature audiences. Readers that enjoyed this book also enjoyed Where the Crawdads Sing or Daisy Jones and the Six and they have similar time periods and themes.
